Week 20: Silverfast 8 scan experiment

I will either use The Dark Room to process and scan my film or get my film developed locally and scan it myself.  For those rolls that I don’t send out to be scanned, I use an Epson V500 scanner and Silverfast 8 as my scanning software.  I chose it over the standard scanning tools for a number of reasons.  One of those reasons is its ability to do a multi-exposure that results in an increased dynamic range.  On this set of pictures I used my trusty Mamiya 645 Pro TL and Kodak Portra 160 film, had the film developed locally and then scanned myself using the multi-exposure mode.

The results give me a better quality of picture then I can get using my best DSLR and lens.  If you are looking for great scanning software, Silverfast is highly recommended.

  1. I should try it. I have Silverfast on my EpsonV700 but never use it. I just do a straight scan and then do all my adjustments in Lightroom. Your results are beautiful.
