[Pollux]: Epilogue

Yashica Electro 35 GTN, dm200 paradies

#1 Yashica Electro 35 GTN, dm200

Dear 52rolls-team,

I’d like to wave goodbye, because I am going to take over a news site which is running an editorial staff publishing in three languages. There already is plenty to do, but officially I will start in November.

52rolls was fine for me (I had more than fifty after five months), but it would had been even better if I had discovered the possibility of choosing generic, cheap labscans before. Scanning with a Reflecta 10T regularily together with colorperfect is a pain in the neck, because it’s time consuming and I like time consuming things like playing chess or reading or standing in a lab printing on Baryta, but not scanning and editing the colors 36 times and such. Also, there are eight to ten rolls of black and white film waiting in the fridge to be processed. I don’t even remember if they were all shot at -2/3 EV (found out that is my best bet with Neopan 400).

In Germany I give the 135-format film to dm now, they send it to Cewe, a big lab, which was exclusively for analogue in 1999, now they have 12 production halls, and only in two halls they keep a little, really tiny corner to do the analogue work. One of the executives told me in my article for Photoklassik I/2016 (→ read pdf → here) the rate of orders is sinking, 20 percent a year, but they will provide the service as long as there is a demand for it (same story told by Fujifilm).

I am still enjoying the way to photograph on film and will improve on shooting with flash I guess, because the light in this weather doesn’t look too compelling if you don’t use a tripod.

And last but not least: I became reluctant to post so many pictures showing the private life of my family. On the one hand it was fine because this is what I had been photographing in the first place, on the other hand it can be very redundant as a subject for others and there also is this privacy criterion which shouldn’t be taken too lightly.

I hope you don’t mind if I show some of the work without particular order here and at the end of this epilogue.

In one of my entries I said I am waiting for the chance to use the Fujifilm Reala 100 in 120-format. I did it, and the results are better using the film with the Zeiss-lenses on the Hasselblad – before that I had only tried the Super Ikonta. These are the Planar 80 and the Distagon 50:

Then there are some other shots of this year. There is much more material, not including the ten rolls of Neopan still waiting in the fridge, but I’ll leave it at that and just say goodbye. One day we’ll meet again for sure, it’s always like that and you can get in touch at pollux-foto.de – cheers!
