Hello and Weeks One and Two

First posting and I’m super excited to start. I was talked into this by another photographer and every so often I am disturbed by only one small unanswered question…why would I want to start a project like this at the beginning of a Toronto winter? Snow, rain, ice, and more snow topped off with cold and then a few warming thaws to keep it interesting makes my film cameras (more like me) nervous. I can easily do 52 rolls a year though  timing is an issue more than quantity.    In 2016, I have shot approximately 130 rolls.  Anyway, too late to turn back now.

Week One (November 22, 2016)  Hasselblad 501CM, Planar f/2.8 80 mm CFE, Kodak Portra 400

  1. These are great. Welcome, this is a great community. I love the pure colors of well exposed Portra. I have nowhere near mastered it having shot largely black and white. But I am trying like hell! So great to see another Hasselblad lover here. I agree, it is the camera I will never relinquish. The experience of framing an image in a Hasselblad and the sound of the shutter is pure music. Looking forward to the oncoming rolls from you Mary….L.

    • I am exactly your opposite as far as colour vs B & W. I don’t shoot enough B & W and am not as comfortable as I am with Portra. Yes, Hasselblad is my go to camera if I can’t decide which one to take.

  2. Welcome to the group! I’m about to start Round 2 (I hope) after I catch up with my 2016 postings. It’s a lot of fun, you won’t regret it. I really like the way the Portra translates the muted/grayed colors of this time of year in your spot of the world.

    • WOW, a second year. I know I will find the posting my downfall. It’s always more fun to go out shooting rather than sitting at the computer or sleeving negatives. I’m way behind in storing my negatives 😔

  3. Thank you for taking a look at one of my last posts from last year. My best wishes to you as you embark on this journey. You will find this project to be amazing, frustrating and ultimately rewarding. I tended to use a good number of cameras and film stocks. From what I have seen, stick with what you are doing, it is beautiful. All my best.
