2017, Roll 70: #StopBrexitManchester

Iain and I travelled up to the #StopBrexit march yesterday in Manchester. While I’m unsure if it made any kind of difference, I’m pleased that we went along and got involved.

I still hold on the hope that as it becomes clearer what a disaster leaving the EU is going to be, more people will demand the chance to vote on accepting the final deal (or not). I hope for the opportunity for the nation to make a decision once aware of the full implications to them and more importantly, their decedents, and not based on lies and guesswork.

It was reassuring to see so many people who also think that the whole idea of leaving the coolest club in the world is such a ridiculous thing to do. There was a huge crowd in excellent spirits, many of whom had gone to great lengths making banners and dressing up.

I had fun pretending to be a street shooter. In a relaxed crowd, it was easy to move around and take pictures of people.

  1. I am guessing that you don’t realise that most of the world is not a member of the EU and not only does well, in many cases does much better than the EU.

When I were a young lad and being a protesting student, we used to protest about war, about big brother, and against the big state.

You lot seem to think that the state, the monolith, with its wars, its expansionism, its sheer vicious attitude to those it disagrees with, along with its corporate chums who made your iPhone, or your trainers is something worth cleaving to in preference to democracy.

  2. Photographing marches and low key protests can be a nice way to dabble with street photography since pretty much everyone there wants to be photographed.

  3. Our local Protests have quieted down. Still happening, but not as well publicized. Also it is a good way to dabble in street photography as mentioned above. I wish you could have a Brexit Do-over……May yet happen.
